SANZAR KAKAR, CHAIRMAN, AFGHANISTAN HOLDING GROUP

Mr. Sanzar Kakar graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science Engineering and from Warwick Business School with a Master’s in Business Administration. At the University of Pennsylvania, Mr. Kakar served as the Manager of the Wharton Graduate Association. Following his undergraduate degree, he worked for Merrill Lynch as a Technology Analyst on a trading desk for bonds and equities, creating a link for automatic reporting to the New York Stock Exchange.

Mr. Kakar started in Afghanistan as an Investment Associate for Acap Partners, setting up a $20 million venture capital facility and sourcing over 300 new deals for consideration. Mr. Kakar joined as an Executive Advisor to the Attorney General’s Office of Afghanistan on a U.S. Department of State program to reorganize the institution and setup a nationwide paper and computer criminal case management system spanning 7 justice institutions. Mr. Kakar then served as the Economic Advisor for the Afghanistan Investment Climate Facility, setting up operational and fiduciary requirements for the 7 year £30 million grant facility in Kabul, followed by a promotion to Deputy Interim Team Leader.

Mr. Kakar then founded Afghanistan Holding Group (previously Afghanistan Financial Services) on 4 March 2009 in Kabul, Afghanistan. AHG is comprised of separate divisions providing inter-related professional business services including taxation, auditing, research and technology. AHG employs more than 180 full-time highly qualified Afghans, calling on an additional pool of 800 short term consultants across all 34 provinces to serve over 220 international clients in Afghanistan.

Mr. Kakar speaks English, Pashtu, Dari and is learning Arabic.

Ajmal Paiman is Co-founder and Director of Shetab | Afghanistan Center for Business and Social Innovation. He is a business consultant with extensive experience of working with Afghan business community and entrepreneurs. Economist by training and a Fulbright scholar he worked in the field of enterprise development with many national and international actors in Afghanistan. Ajmal’s practical experience includes working with Afghanistan Enterprise Development and Advisory Program, Afghanistan Rural Enterprise Development Program, Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development and Afghanistan National Development Strategy.

As an independent consultant Ajmal provided management and advisory services to Afghan companies to enable them access available financial resources, grant opportunity and technical supports, to scale up and improve their business portfolio. He conducted training and capacity development workshop in the areas of business development, contract management, proposal writing and project management to many Afghan businessmen and women. Ajmal brings practical experience in support of Afghan business; he is very well acquainted with Afghanistan’s business platform and ecosystem.
